The attached illustration shows an operator raising the combat flags that, for the benefit of all those unfamiliar with naval signals, we will explain that they represent the famous battle cry of the Spanish-American war: “Remember the Maine !.

The commander is shown preparing on the map the plan of attack with which he intends to attack and sink the entire fleet of enemy ships, destroying them as quickly as possible.

Starting at the point occupied by the large ship, draw a single continuous line through the sixty-three small ships and return to the starting point, making as few “straight” movements as possible, as we say in the language of the riddles

Solution

There are many simple ways to carry out the solution with between 15 and 18 movements but the one we offer here involves only 14 movements returning to the starting point and it seems the best possible answer:
